Two die in building collapse in Hyderabad
Rescue workers cleared the rubble with bare hands after a three-storied building under construction collapsed in the busy Narayanguda locality on Friday afternoon. Two persons were confirmed killed, while there is no clarity on the number of workers trapped underneath the debris.
Rescue workers managed to pull out a woman from the debris. Three others who also sustained injuries in the collapse have been shifted to Gandhi Hospital.
Panic spread in the busy locality after the building adjacent to Brilliant Grammar School collapsed around 2.30 p.m. Students from the building were evacuated immediately even as worried parents rushed to the school.
Hundreds of civilians were assisting the police, fire services department in clearing the debris, even as bull dozers, poclains and gas cutting equipment were being moved to the site. The collapsed building is on the busy Barkatpura-Himayatnagar stretch and with thousands of curious people rushing there, it was becoming difficult for the police to move the cranes and other equipment to the site.
Eye-witnesses said rescuers managed to pull out two bodies from the debris, while a woman who was critically injured was shifted to hospital.
Senior officials including the Commissioner of Police, A.K. Khan were personally supervising the rescue operations. As utter confusion was prevailing, officials could not say how many were still trapped under the debris.
